Amy Markin, LCSW

Amy Markin, LCSW is originally from upstate New York. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, San Diego and her Master of Social Work from San Diego State University.  She first became a licensed clinical social worker in California in 1985 and in North Carolina in 2001. She has held positions as a Child Protective Services worker, Evidentiary Interviewer for children and adolescents, Medical Social Worker, School Based Mental Health Therapist and Outpatient Therapist.  Additionally, Ms. Markin is a certified licensed sign language interpreter providing video relay and community interpreting services.

Ms. Markin provides counseling to children ages 5 and up, adolescents, their families and individual adults.  Specific areas of interest include Depression, Anxiety, Adjustment Disorders, Anger, Trauma/abuse, Grief and Loss, Behavioral and School Issues, ADHD, and Stress Management.

Ms. Markin's person-centered approach is an integrative one, utilizing a variety of different methods  tailored to the needs of the client. Approaches include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Family Systems Approaches. She also utilizes humor, mindfulness, and directness.  Her style of working is warm, collaborative, and dynamic.
